About Image Compression
This tool uses the browser's Canvas API to re-encode your image at the chosen quality. JPEG and WebP use lossy compression — the lower the quality, the smaller the file. PNG is lossless so quality has no effect on PNG output.
WebP typically achieves 25–35% smaller file sizes than JPEG at equivalent visual quality.
Recommended quality settings
- 85–95% — High quality. Good for professional images.
- 70–85% — Balanced. Recommended for most web images.
- 50–70% — Aggressive. Thumbnails and previews.
- Below 50% — Heavy compression, visible artefacts.
